Hi! I’m James. I’m Head of Maths at a successful and oversubscribed comprehensive school in Maidstone and an experienced online maths tutor.

I live and work in Maidstone and have spent over a decade teaching maths across the full secondary age range. That includes Year 7 students who arrive without key foundations in place as well as sixth formers studying A Level Further Maths. Before leading my current department I spent five years teaching at one of the top performing grammar schools in the area where I worked with high achieving students and developed a strong understanding of rigorous academic standards.

For the last five years I’ve also worked as a GCSE exam marker. This experience has given me a clear insight into what exam boards are looking for and how students can avoid common mistakes that cost valuable marks.

Over the years one thing has become very clear to me. Not all maths teaching is created equal. I’ve seen how inconsistent delivery and generic resources can leave students behind. I believe every child deserves clear purposeful teaching that meets them where they are whether they are catching up or aiming for the top.

That’s why I created this site. My aim is to share the kind of structured and high quality support I use with my own students so that others can benefit no matter where they are learning from.
